GUDMUNDUR A. THORISSON is a post-doctoral Research Associate at the Department of Gentics, University of Leicester but is in the process of relocating to University of Iceland. He is currently involved in various projects relating to identity in research and scholarly communication, most recently the Open Researcher and Contributor ID initiative (http://www.orcid.org) and VIVO (http://www.vivoweb.org). Through his work in the GEN2PHEN project (http://www.gen2phen.org) he has contributed to a number of database projects in the biomedical research domain.
Before starting postgraduate studies in the UK in 2006, Gudmundur spent 5 years as a scientific programmer at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York (http://www.cshl.edu), working on various bioinformatics projects, including data management for the International HapMap project (http://www.hapmap.org). Prior to this he worked for 2 1/2 years in the bioinformatics unit of DECODE Genetics (http://www.decode.com), a biotech company based in Iceland, after graduating with a B.Sc. degree in biology from the University of Iceland (http://www.hi.is)
